06.03.2025 - The ISMF Ski Mountaineering World Championships are currently taking place in the Dents du Midi region. As part of the supporting programme, Swiss O Week 2026 had the opportunity to draw attention to orienteering and the upcoming major orienteering event.
The event centre in Morgins offers the opportunity to showcase upcoming major events in the Dents du Midi region. For example, the region is one of the various venues in Valais for the 2025 Mountain Bike World Championships and the 2027 Alpine Skiing World Championships. Morgins will host the Maxi-Rires Festival in April 2025 and the Raclette World Championships in October 2025. And then the Swiss Orienteering Week in July 2026.
An introductory video briefly explained the unfamiliar sport and the main features of Swiss O Week to the guests attending the event. Organising Committee President Marcel Schiess then answered questions such as ‘How did the SOW come to Morgins?’ during an interview (because it is a new, unknown orienteering region with fantastic terrain), ‘whether the alpine skiing stars Tove Alexandersson and Jerker Lysell (7th place in the mixed relay) will also come to the SOW? (probably not, as the orienteering world championships will be taking place in Italy the week before) or whether you can also take part as a beginner? (of course, in the beginner categories Challenge and Holiday there are suitable courses for newcomers and you can register as late as on the day of the race).
