05.05.2020 - Marius Robinson's work «Base map for an alpine orienteering map using data of a drone» was recently presented at this site. The work has now been awarded with the predicate «very good» by "Schweizer Jugend forscht" (Swiss young researchers) in the category "Physics & Technology".

Lorenz Hurni, EHTZ Institute for Cartography and Geoinformation, presented the award.

Marius Robinson compares the suitability of commercial digital elevation model and orthophoto data with specially collected drone data with a 10-fold higher resolution, with the aim of digitally producing a large scale orienteering map in alpine terrain. The investigations into the efficiency of the recording and mapping methods and the recognisability of topographic objects are presented in a comprehensive, clear and comprehensible manner. Marius Robinson thus provides a valuable basis for the future production of orienteering maps, but also for professional topographic landscape models.

Predicate: very good

The Swiss O Week warmly congratulates Marius and is looking forward to using his base maps in the summer of 2021 in the magnificent mountain world of Arosa.
